Boeing’s history in Kuwait began in 1968 when Kuwait Airways took delivery of three 707 airliners. Since then, the airline has operated various types of Boeing commercial airplanes providing Kuwaiti people with access to North America, Europe, Asia and India. Kuwait Airways operates 10 Boeing 777-300ERs on their long-haul flights.
Boeing has strong ties with the Kuwaiti armed forces. The company has been supporting the country’s defense requirements for nearly 50 years. It started when the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) ordered 36 Skyhawk airplanes in 1974.
Currently Kuwait operates Boeing platforms, including the F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter and trainer, C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft and AH-64 Apache helicopters.
In 2018, the government of Kuwait finalized a deal for 28 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. The contract includes engineering services, radar warning receivers and other equipment. The fighter jets are planned to be ferried to Kuwait in 2023.
In early 2023, the KAF agreed with Boeing on the remanufacture of the current fleet of 16 AH-64D Apache helicopters to the latest AH-64E configuration.
Boeing provides a range of services to the KAF, including sustainment of the F/A-18 and AH-64 Apache fleets, electronic maintenance and logistics support services. Boeing also offers the expertise of its pilot instructors for the F/A-18 Super Hornet and field service engineers for Kuwait’s C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft. Kuwait deploys its two C-17s for humanitarian missions when necessary.
In 2024, a memorandum of agreement was signed between Boeing and the Youth Public Authority to launch the Kuwait Digital Startup Campus. The partners are designing a campus that will become a collaborative hub for the entrepreneurs in Kuwait, to help them launch startups focused on technology, innovation and sustainability.
Boeing supports Kuwait University’s annual engineering design projects and exhibition to build a talent pipeline in Kuwait. In addition, Boeing has provided specialized equipment and training to the Australian College of Kuwait, in support of its aviation maintenance and electromechanical engineering programs.
Boeing partners with Amideast/Kuwait and the Public Authority for Manpower on the Careers in Aviation program. The initiative provides young Kuwaitis with advanced English and job readiness training, opening doors to fulfilling careers in the aviation industry.. The STEM for Kids program by Amideast/Kuwait and Boeing inspires Kuwaiti children to pursue an interest in aerospace through aviation and space workshops.
Additionally, Boeing supports the youth entrepreneurship competition and the online sustainable aviation course by INJAZ Kuwait.
