For nearly six decades, Boeing has partnered with Egypt, providing aircraft and services to meet its commercial and military needs. The collaboration has helped enhance Egypt’s aviation and defense capabilities and create jobs.
Boeing’s support encompasses a wide range of initiatives related to sustainability, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, and entrepreneurship, aiming to support the country’s development.

EGYPTAIR placed its first order for three Boeing 707s in 1966. The first delivery took place in 1968.
Since then, EGYPTAIR has ordered 70 Boeing airplanes, including eight 787-9s from lessor AerCap. In 2022, EGYPTAIR marked its 90th anniversary by adding a special milestone logo to its 787 Dreamliner’s livery. EGYPTAIR has seven 787 in service and will take delivery of their last 787 end of this year.
EGYPTAIR’s Boeing 737-800 fleet is one of the largest of its type across the region. At the 2023 Dubai Airshow, EGYPTAIR along with ALC announced a long-term lease contract for 18 new Boeing 737-8 airplanes.
Boeing’s relationship with the Egyptian military goes back over 40 years, since the acquisition by the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) of the F-4 Phantom II fighter in 1979.
The EAF received its first delivery of AH-64A Apache helicopters in 1994, and in 2000 Boeing was awarded a contract to remanufacture Egypt’s Apache fleet to the AH-64D configuration. This was followed by another contract in 2023 to upgrade 25 of the Apaches to the newest AH-64E configuration.
In 2022, the U.S. Army awarded Boeing a contract to produce 12 new CH-47F Chinooks for the EAF. With this $426 million foreign military sale, Egypt will replace its fleet of CH-47D aircraft with the modern F model, and benefit from its advanced multimission capabilities.
Egypt currently has 43 AH-64Ds and 18 CH-47D Chinook helicopters supporting its armed forces and disaster relief efforts.
EGYPTAIR has utilized Boeing service offerings, including spare parts to maintain fleet and training solutions for airline personnel. Digital solutions support a broad range of crew management, flight deck, sustainment and flight operations’ needs, providing real-time access to maintenance, flight and aircraft performance information to optimize efficiency and lower fleet operating costs.
Boeing provides electronic charting and navigation data to the EAF and fully supports the AH-64D Apache fleet, including field service representatives and field engineering in-country.
Boeing and the Egyptian authorities see sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as a way to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, and to stimulate the green economy and GDP growth.
Boeing works closely with the national carrier of Egypt to incentivize supply and use of SAF. In 2019, EGYPTAIR flew the world’s longest Boeing 787 Dreamliner delivery flight using biofuel. Moreover, during the UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP27) in Egypt in 2022, EGYPTAIR operated its first commercial flight powered by SAF, with a Boeing 787-9 flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Sharm El Sheikh.
At COP27, Boeing and Amideast/Egypt announced an expanded partnership supporting Egyptian youth through STEM education with a focus on sustainability. As part of the STEM for Sustainability program, Boeing and Amideast/Egypt launched a startup accelerator and introduced a series of roundtables and podcasts in Egypt aimed at aligning STEM education with the country’s sustainability priorities. Egypt was the first country to host the initiative, which has now expanded to include the UAE (with Amideast), Morocco (with Amideast) and Senegal (with Junior Achievement Africa).
Over the last decade, Boeing has invested more than $2.8 million in community engagement through programs focused on STEM education, employability, entrepreneurship and sustainability.
Boeing has been supporting entrepreneurship programs of INJAZ Egypt for high school and university students since 2008. New startup businesses were founded as part of this program.
In Egypt, where 60% of the population is under 30 years old, investment in STEM education for youth is critically important.
In 2016, Boeing began supporting Cairo University’s aeronautical engineering program and has since expanded its support to encompass all STEM programs.
Boeing also has partnered with Education for Employment to help young Egyptians get job opportunities and equip them with employability skills. In 2021, Boeing and Amideast/Egypt opened a STEM Center in Cairo which serves as an educational hub.
