• Boeing and Mubadala Empower UAE’s Next Generation of Innovators through STEM for Kids Program

    • Program trains teachers to deliver STEM subjects to students in an exciting and engaging method.
    • Al Ahmadiya Model School in Dubai received the full program.

UAE, Dubai,  May 2, 2019 - Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Mubadala, in partnership with STEM For Kids, an organization that provides science, technology, engineering & math (STEM) based courses for children, today celebrated the launch of their Explore Science Together program to teach STEM subjects to students, with the aim of inspiring them to pursue these fields in the future.

Al Ahmadiya Model School in Dubai was the first to receive the full Explore Science Together program throughout the month of April. The program consisted of five sessions, engaging 25 families, training a total of 34 educators – nine teachers from Ahmadiya School and 25 volunteers from Mubadala - and had over 30 students between grades 3 to 5 participate. Some of the fun challenges the students were involved in included building a ‘moon rover’, ‘traffic LED glove’, a drone and a hovercraft.

During the launch ceremony, Bernard Dunn, president of Boeing Middle East, North Africa and Turkey said, “The STEM For Kids partnership with Boeing and Mubadala is another proud milestone for us. We have a clear commitment to the UAE’s vision for a future driven by knowledge technology, and scientific thinking. These young students are gaining essential skills to build that future and our aim is to support many more schools across the nation.”

Fatima Mohamed Al Marzouqi, Head of Emiratization at Mubadala Investment Company, said: “Our aim is to ignite a passion for STEM subjects in young people and their families. By introducing interactive educational programs, we are bringing best in class training tools to our local schools and sparking the development of skills that are vital for the future. The Explore Science Together program is unique in promoting collaboration between teachers and parents, encouraging them to take an active role in their children’s education. Together with our partners—Boeing and STEM for Kids—we will continue to help inspire the leaders of tomorrow.”

The Explore Science Together programs are created by engineers and educators within the industry.  Training sessions target the teachers first, providing them behavioral and educational guidance to help drive learning in a fun and highly engaging way. Each of the sessions that took place at Ahmadiya School involved students, their parents, professional volunteers and teachers, combining proactive, critical thinking and collaboration to tackle the challenges presented to them.

This latest initiative is a continuation of Boeing’s work with Mubadala to promote STEM education. Boeing and Mubadala have previously partnered with Abu Dhabi Education Council and Iridescent, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, to teach STEM learning through hands-on engineering design challenges.

Launched in the USA in 2010, STEM for Kids opened its Dubai doors in 2015 and has quickly established itself as the premier educator of STEM principles in the region.
